Golden Milk or Turmeric Milk is a delicious healthy drink which has increased in popularity in the last few years.

It is easy to prepare and will be healthier than anything you order in a cafe if you make it fresh, just make sure you wear gloves when you peel the turmeric, otherwise your hands will be a orange. Alternatively you can use group turmeric, however we find that fresh tastes better, but the choice is yours!

Ingredients: (makes 2 cups)

1 cup coconut milk

1 cup alternative milk substitute such as almond, rice, or soya (this is optional as you can just stick to the coconut milk)

2-3 pieces of small fresh turmeric aka curcuma

2-3 pieces of small freshly sliced ginger

1 cinnamon stick (optional)

Place all ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a slow boil, simmer and watch the color of the milk transform to a golden yellow.

Remove from heat, add your choice of sweetener (we use honey) and if you really want a boost add a spoon of coconut oil or ghee.

It has been said that the addition of ghee or coconut oil speeds metabolism, improves energy levels and raises HDL (good cholesterol).

Whatever you do not drink place in a bottle a refrigerate, you can add it to your HIVE granola instead of yogurt or milk substitute, drink it iced, or add it to your smoothie.
